"Girls Day" at Excelsior Primary School was boosted by the involvement of some outstanding personalities in the activities scheduled last week on the school grounds.

Dancehall Soul singer/songwriter/actress Cherine Anderson, who walked away with the award for Best Female Vocalist at the 2008 Caribbean Urban Music Awards, shared ideas for growth and development with the girls. Cherine believes that holding a positive image coupled with constructive activities and positive reinforcement can lead to success. Cherine has recently taken the entertainment industry by storm, collaborating with reknown musicians including Paul McCartney, Bootsy Collins, Britney Spears and Wyclef Jean. Anderson is the star of the movies One Love and Dancehall Queen and has had much acclaim for her songs "Kingston State of Mind", "Good Love" and "Coming Over", which she recorded with Chuck Fender. Anderson graduated with honors from the prestigious Middlebury College in the United States with a joint degree in Film and Music Studies and studied Japanese Language and Literature at Keio Uninversity in Japan.

When asked why she chose to get involved in "Girls Day" at Excelsior Primary School , Anderson responded "I am a big supporter of education and personal development of Jamaican youths, especially innercity youths. As a product of Excelsior Primary I benefited from having positive role models and teachers who nutured my talents, constantly challenged me to take on both academic and non academic activities and helped me develop as a well rounded young lady. It feels good to share what I've learned and I hope that these students will take what they need from my experience and do amazing things with their lives."

Natoya Morrison, an accomplished Financial Advisor with LOJ, the founder of "The Natoya Morrison Scholarship Fund" and a true success story says, "I can well remember the impact persons who had made any significant achievement had on me when I was a student. It is a pleasure for me to assist in the process of helping to expose these girls to ideas that will help them in all areas of life."

"Girls Day" is one in a series of events being planned by Cherine Anderson's "Reach-One-Child" charity and "The Natoya Morrison Scholarship Fund " for East Kingston schools. The aim is to motivate and uplift young students, by sharing their own experiences of growing up in the East Kingston community.
