Singer-Songwriter Cherine Anderson releases her EP,
The Introduction-Dubstyle, via
Dancehall Soul Productions/Zlink Entertainment.

The East Kingston, Jamaica soulstress started 2009 with a bang by performing at three Barack Obama Inaugural Balls, performing at the World Special Olympics in Idaho, and is currently on tour supporting her first official release, The Introduction-Dubstyle EP. After spending the last seven months touring the US, Australia and Europe with the likes of Sly & Robbie, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Slightly Stoopid and Pepper, it's clear that Anderson has been working hard and entertaining many fans with her infectious Dancehall Soul sound.

The Introduction-Dubstyle, available on iTunes, is a perfect combination of dancehall, soul and lover's rock. The nine track EP boasts outstanding production from Grammy Award winning producers Sly & Robbie, hit makers David Norland (Madonna, Janet Jackson), Christopher Birch, Gussie Clarke and legendary mixing engineer Errol Brown (Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley), among others. The multi-faceted Anderson plays triple duty on the project, performing, writing on all nine songs and co-producing several tracks.

Anderson's vocals are remarkable from song to song. Her powerful voice soars on anthems like "Shine On Jamaica" and the female anthem "Talk if Yuh Talking". With lyrics cutting particular hard on the inspiring "Shine On Jamaica", Anderson speaks to the realities of young black girls in the harsh inner city.

Her writing is thought provoking without being preachy. The talent combines intellect with soulfulness, but never loses that feminine touch. Her youth is exposed on the sassy "Tuff Enuff" where she flirts with the boys and at the same time empowers the sisters.

This reggaeton/dancehall flavored track picks up the tempo and will definitely make you move your feet, while chart-topping hits

Anderson set to perform at two sold-out Inaugural events

The victory of President Elect Barack Obama is cause for many celebrations, and the inauguration ceremonies commence in full force next week in Washington DC. Among the invited performers is Jamaica's own Dancehall Soulstress Cherine Anderson, appearing alongside Michael Franti and Spearhead. Monday, January 19, Cherine joins in celebrating the change in US Presidential leadership by performing at "The Green Ball". The event, hosted by former Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore is sold out and takes place at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Center. Anderson is in outstanding company at "The Green Ball", with fellow performers including John Legend, Maroon 5 and Melissa Etheridge among others. Cherine is very honored to take the stage again on Tuesday, January 20, while performing at "The Peace Ball". This special event will be held at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, and is hosted by Harry Belafonte. Other distinguished performers at this event include Joan Baez and Angelique Kidjo. "The Peace Ball" is also a sold out event. Anderson says, "It feels wonderful to be a part of an event that is so historic. This will be one of the biggest celebrations, so I am working very hard to give a memorable performance to honor the occasion."

CHERINE LIVES THE LIFE SHE IMAGINED

When I was about seven years old, I wrote a list of things I wanted to achieve and places I wanted to visit in my lifetime and placed in on my wall. I didn't obsess about the list; it was just my imagination and daydreams taking me from my childhood reality of a one-bedroom home shared with my parents and two sisters in Nannyville Gardens, Jamaica. While I couldn't even identify some of the locations on a map as a seven year old, I created a mental picture of them and for some reason even felt like there was a spiritual connection with these places. While my list of goals was long, my original list of countries to be visited was really short; there were three: Australia, Japan and India. I was blessed with the opportunity to study and live in Japan for a whole year, and that experience made me realize how big this world really is. It's weird when you go to a foreign country. You are suddenly pushed to not only define who you are, but you also take on the added responsibility of being a flagship for your country. I loved Japan. I loved the language, the food, the technology, the 'quiet', the fashion, the people, and I loved how independent it made me! Fast forward to 2008, and here I am sitting in my hotel room in Perth, Australia, bringing another country (and continent!) from my childhood dream list into reality. What was supposed to be just a tour has turned out to be an amazing experience. I've just realized that in one trip I have been able to travel to more states in Australia than even some native Australians have, which is kinna crazy. When I learned that I would be touring Australia at first I thought, "Ok, I've heard of Sydney and Melbourne," but that's pretty much all I knew. I've always had a fascination with Aboriginal art (and I learned from my driver in Sydney that there are messages and sometimes stories behind the dots that are on the many paintings). I decided to buy my nine year old niece a Rainmaker Didgeridoo that is painted and crafted in the traditional dreamtime colors depicting native Australian styles. The lady at the store told me it's meant to bring rain, so I guess when we have droughts in Jamaica, my niece will have it handy and she'll just make it rain. :) But this wonderful trip was not all vacation. Thanks to Michael Franti & Spearhead I've been fortunate to not only visit but to perform to large and extremely receptive audiences in places like Byron Bay, Brisbane, New Castle, Wollongong, Canberra, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. It's incredible to walk on that stage every night with possibly 98% of the audience having little or no knowledge of Dancehall Soul (these weren't typical reggae audiences), and to witness their transformation during the show. To meet these interesting people night after night and hear their stories and communicate with them online through facebook, myspace and in blogs on my youtube channel afterward has really made my own world so much bigger and better. It took going to the other side of the Earth to prove something to myself; I am truly NOT AFRAID TO LIVE!!!! CLICK HERE: WATCH CHERINE swim with sharks and sting rays in Sydney , Australia I swam with some of the largest sharks, stingrays, turtles (they had heads about two times the size of mine!) and other sea animals that looked scary as hell! I tried the Morton Bay Bug (this was so delicious, and much like lobster), kangaroo (my first and last time, way too chewy for me, and I enjoy seeing them jumping around more than on my plate)! I still have plans of finding some crocodile, so maybe on my next trip. I also got to record a remix of "All I Want Is You" with Michael in a fabulous studio in Perth. I didn't have a lot of time to shop, but I did receive my new baby; custom fit for my skinny little fingers, a Maton acoustic/electric guitar (thanks to the owner of the Maton guitar factory). Mostly what I'm leaving Australia with is what was least expected, such gracious love from new wonderful fans. One fan followed us to FIVE different shows, and by the third show he made a huge sign saying, "Cherine you melt me". Michael spotted him in the crowd and brought it to the attention of the well over 4,000 fans in attendance who all went wild. For the first time I didn't know what to say. I was totally blown away in Wollongong when a middle-aged man took off his amputated leg and told me he would be honored to have me sign it. Another fan had me speechless in Canberra when she told me she was so touched by our performance that she wanted me to sign her stomach. She went further to explain that she had miscarried months prior and was blessed to be pregnant again, and the music was so moving she figured she would call this unborn baby melody because 'music is life' and it connects all people from all different places together; I humbly obliged to her request. CLICK HERE : This fan attended 5 shows and says Anderson voice stole his heart I love that I can walk in with no expectations and have the place, the people and the experience put a positive stamp on my mind and heart. In a lot of ways the beaches are somewhat similar to Jamaica (but yaad a yaad and our vibe is priceless). It was also heartwarming to find out that the Australian government made a public apology to the Aboriginal people for the injustices done to them over the years. The uncertainty of the global economy is affecting lives everywhere and most Australians were very keen on the outcome on America's November 4th elections (this was a big topic in most of the interviews I've done while here). While I would have loved to visit the world famous AYERS rock in the middle of the country, I didn't get the chance, but I guess I shouldn't try to do everything in one trip. It will give me greater reasons to return. I don't know where else my imagination or travels will take me next but I know that faith, sacrifice, a positive attitude and determination are a few keys to achieving anything in this world. Sometimes things happen as you imagine, but most times the enormity of the great things is so vast that only in a divine moment do you realize just how far you've come or how many other victories you've won along your journey. My dreams for myself are just as big as my dreams for Jamaica. I stay committed to making my contribution by producing great music and greats films, continuing in the legacy set by those before me like Leonie Forbes, Madge Sinclair, Louise Bennett, Bob Marley, I-Threes, Sly & Robbie among so many others. In closing I reflect on the words of western philosopher Henry David Thoreau, which I would advise to everyone - "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined." Michael and Cherine performed the first single off the new Franti & Spearhead album All Rebel Rockers titled "Say Hey (I Love You)" which features Anderson. The upbeat, reggae styled tune, recorded in Kingston, is sure to make even the Late Late viewers get up and dance!

CHERINE ANDERSON TOURS WITH MICHAEL FRANTI

On the heels of wrapping a successful 21 date tour of the US in early September, the young Dancehall Soul songstress Cherine Anderson returns to the States again, this time hitting the road with singer/activist Michael Franti and Spearhead. Anderson is touring with the massively popular Franti and Spearhead in support of their September 9th release, All Rebel Rockers, in which Cherine is featured on three songs. The first single off the album, "Say Hey (I Love You)" featuring Cherine, is receiving great radio rotation as well as being featured on ads for the CW and E! Entertainment Networks.

Anderson serves as the band's opening act performing songs from her upcoming EP "The Introduction-dubstyle", and rejoins the band as a featured vocalist during the Spearhead set. Just several shows into joining the tour, Anderson's presence has created a buzz. Nicole Kristek of Mel.Opho.be writes about the show at Marymoor Amphitheatre in Washington, "(Cherine) showed off her range and power with slow "diva"-style vocals mixed over reggae beats. A bit reminiscent of Lauryn Hill but with more funk to her voice, we found her to be extremely charismatic, weaving her sultry way across the stage".

The All Rebel Rockers tour also allowed Cherine the opportunity to perform at The Hollywood Bowl, her second feature at the famed concert hall in her young career. In October, the tour takes Anderson to Australia, her first time taking her Dancehall Soul sound "Down Under". The talented artists bring their powerful shows to ten cities in Australia including Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. A video for the follow up single "Little Bit of Riddim" (song and video also featuring Anderson) was shot on location in Jamaica under the direction of the Ras Kassa, so be on the look out for its premiere!

Cherine Anderson is making giant waves in the world of music and her sound is being gobbled up by music lovers everywhere. Fresh from a very successful tour in early September where she worked US stages with Slightly Stoopid and Sly & Robbie, Cherine is off again to join up this time with Michael Franti and Spearhead as they head out to tour Australian support of the singer/activist's latest album, "All Rebel Rockers".

Cherine Anderson is fresh off the 2008 Tailgate Tour with Slightly Stoopid, Pepper and Sly & Robbie and The Taxi Gang; a 21 date summer tour which weaved the bands through the US from Santa Barbara, California to St. Augustine, Florida. Cherine impressed audiences from city to city gaining new supporter along the way. The bands sold out the famous Red Rocks Theatre in Colorado and warmed an audience who braved the rain to enjoy the music. Both Slightly Stoopid and Pepper also loved Cherine's Dancehall Soul vibe and invited her to perform in their respective sets. This saw Anderson playing triple duty - first performing her set with Sly & Robbie, followed by performing a remix of Pepper's "Like Your Style" during their set and then returning to the stage with Slightly Stoopid at the end to perform her own hit "Good Love".
Cherine says of the tour, "WOW, where do I begin? The tour exceeded all my expectations! I love, love, loved it. We started in California and ended in Florida playing to sold out audiences most night, and the energy from those crowds was indescribable. Sly & Robbie turned up that heat every night it was just great. And working with Slightly Stoopid and Pepper was amazing. Those guys are so passionate about what they do. It was like one big musical family."


According to legendary drummer Sly Dunbar " It is really amazing to see the growth of Cherine from the first tour to now, She really shines on the tough hardcore riddims."


The bands had nothing but raves for the presence and talents Anderson added to the Tailgate 2008 tour. Miles, founding member of Slightly Stoopid said, "Cherine brings love to the battlefield. She has an incredibly beautiful voice and lots of energy on stage and is definitely someone people should check out." C-Money from Slightly Stoopid replied, "Cherine is a true artist, a sexy mama and a positive light." OG added, "The way she carries herself, she's just really normal, but she gets on that stage and passion just oozes out of her."
The band's tour manager Brian shared, "Every night she hit that stage, it took about 30 seconds into her set before the workers at the venues all looked to the stage to see where that sound was coming from. Cherine is the real deal. Her voice grabs your attention and forces you to listen and it gives you goose bumps too."


A highlight during Cherine's set was her new single "Talk If Yuh Talking", (released to Jamaican radio this week). Anderson wrote the in-your-face female anthem based on the experience of one of her friends. "Talk If Yuh Talking" will be available to fans on Cherine's upcoming EP, 'The Introduction-Dubstyle'. Cherine Anderson is in the process of finishing up her debut album, Kingston State of Mind. Panache Magazine has been granted exclusive access into a Los Angeles recording studio as Cherine works with producer David Norland. As I step into the studio, Cherine is laying vocals to a tune which is a possible song for her album. Within minutes, several things are quite clear. One, this girl’s voice is large. As in, you don’t expect this massive, powerful voice to come from a petite, 5’3” beauty. Two, she is very much in control of her artistry – she is obviously not a novice. Three, Cherine Anderson is for real. Not a pro-tooled, note manipulated, over-produced, manufactured type of artist. She seems to be genuine article, and with the sounds coming from this gal, I would predict she’s about to take the world by storm.

Air Jamaica chooses Cherine Anderson

Air Jamaica's inflight magazine, Skywritings, has chosen Dancehall Soul songstress Cherine Anderson as their cover model and feature for their Summer 2008 issue. The magazine, available on all Air Jamaica flights in July and August, features fantastic photos of Cherine shot on location throughout Kingston by photographer Martei Korley.

The magazine originally approached Cherine interested in doing an article on her hit song "Kingston State of Mind", based on the impact of the song and the message involved, but they soon realized there was much more to discuss.







The 8 page feature includes commentary on Cherine's music, life, love and her latest business venture. The beauty was styled by Anatoli Smith with hair and makeup by Carol Reid. Always interested in fashion, Cherine also styled a couple of the looks herself. Anderson was honored to have been selected to represent the Music Issue, and is in esteemed company; former cover female artists include Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, Yolanda Adams, Angelique Kidjo and Erykah Badu.
