(Kingston, Jamaica - February 12, 2011) The Queen of Dancehall Soul, Cherine is set to premiere a hot and exciting music video for her latest single "Make up Sex". The video was directed by Kevin Lee of Broadvision and was shot in Port Royal, Jamaica.

The video is set to premiere on local TV on Friday, February 19th, 2011 followed by a worldwide premiere on her soon-to-be-launched website www.cherineanderson.com .

The video features a dance routine choreographed by popular dancer and TV Personality Tippa. It also showcases the natural street styles and creativity of some of Kingston's best female dancers. Cherine collaborates with Jamaican jeweler Duane Bennett and turns up the fashion meter with a few body-hugging and eye catching outfits. She was also adorned with unique custom-made jewelry by Reve Accessories.

"Make up Sex" is a high energy video that showcases Cherine's versatility as a performer and songwriter. It captures the scenic beauty of the venues and highlights the vibrancy and spirit of young women in Jamaica who will undoubtedly use this an anthem. The video's high intensity and appeal is credited to Cherine's strong performance, a steamy love scene and the overall direction and editing of the video.

The "Make up Sex" singer is no stranger to belting out sexy lyrics without being raunchy, as were her hits "Good Love" and "Coming Over" done in collaboration with the high energy chart topping Chuck Fenda. "Make up Sex," the single, released a month ago is already receiving regular rotation on local and international airwaves and is already creating a buzz.

It's hard to believe that we only have one week left in 2010. And what a year this has been!

Through your support and encouragement I've had the honor of visiting some cool new places, met really interesting people and started several exciting projects. Most importantly, I've been blessed with several opportunities to share my Dancehall-Soul music with you, all over the world.

To all my Facebook, Twitter and Blog #dancehallsouldiers thanks for the support and for helping us to spread the music far and wide, 2010 would not have been the same without you. Our regular conversations and sometimes heated debates have inspired some hot new music and I can't wait to share them with you.

To all the promoters, festivals, clubs and corporate organizations who booked me for your events this year, it was a pleasure working with you and I look forward to working with you again in the 2011. To every musician and producer who allowed me to create with you this year, thank you and let's make even greater music in the coming year. The first in a series of new songs to be officially released is the hard-hitting "Ring The Alarm" produced by Shadow and Dream Queen for the Dancehall-Soul Label. The tune has been growing in popularity and showcases Cherine's versatility as a vocalist and writer.

With strong vocal delivery, Cherine mixes both singing and dj-ing effortlessly on this track. The subject matter on "Ring The Alarm" will be appreciated by her fans, who have come to love her social and political messages, but they will especially love the fact that they can dance to this high energy track on the dance floor. The production revamps the dancehall classic "staggalag riddim" with a 2010 twist.

Cherine performed the riveting new single for the first time last week on TVJ's popular morning show Smile Jamaica and has received positive feedback for the track. She has since been making the rounds, giving strong performances at the Ms. Jamaica World 2010 finals as well as well as a much 'talked-about' appearance on one of the most popular shows on local tv Digicel Rising Stars. With a new video in the works, more collaborations and school tours being planned , Jamaican audiences can look out for more local shows from the 'Dancehall-Soul Queen' over the next two months.

Performances aside, Cherine has been busy in the studio working with several producers including Bobby Digital, Stephen McGreggor, Rommell Marshall, U.I.M, and Ward 21. Also, currently hitting at radio is her recently released dance hall favorite "Hall of Fame", produced by The Wizard.

Cherine with Michael Franti opens for John Mayer's NYC sold out shows

After an exciting weekend where Cherine Anderson rocked back to back, sold out nights at the famed Madison Square Garden, her signature voice chanting "Come Down, Selector!" was heard in a surprising place; blasting from an intro on CNN's morning show. As the hit song "Say Hey (I Love You)" rang out to start the day for countless viewers, it capped off an amazing weekend for Cherine in the Big Apple!

There are very few things that could stop the determined Dancehall-Soulstress from giving a memorable and energetic performance. Braving freezing temperatures and a snowstorm that dumped over 20 inches of snow in New York's Central Park, Cherine came out blazing, bringing Jamaican sunshine and her Dancehall-Soul energy to two sold out performances at the famed Madison Square Garden.

On the first night, Cherine took the stage like a storm and really got the crowd up and moving. Dressed in a classic custom made blazer of royal blue with neon orange accents, Cherine represented more than just Jamaica, she also represented New York by wearing the team colors of the New York Knicks. Backstage she was again rewarded with positive feedback for her performance including a compliment of "great performance" from Warner Music Group's Vice Chairman, Lyor Cohen.

On the second night, Anderson delighted the audience as she rushed onto the stage excitedly and started the show asking, "New York, yuh ready? Cause dis is a Dancehall-Soul ting"! Her entrance ignited many to stand up for what was an impressive one hour set filled with Dancehall-Soul-Rebel-Rocking goodness. The back to back Madison Square Garden performances were a first for both Cherine and Michael Franti & Spearhead.

Cherine continues to make a statement with her powerful voice as well as her unbelievable onstage presence. As we spoke with her, it was clear that her first appearance inside Madison Square Garden really meant a lot to the up and coming starlet. "I really am in awe of this venue. There have been so many legends that have performed on this stage. I just get goose bumps being in this building." Performing alongside Michael Franti & Spearhead, the onstage chemistry was a real delight for the fans in the arena. On this New York tour stop Cherine continued her movement of appreciating new fans and charming current fans as she took time to meet them and sign autographs.

According to Cherine, "As the tour continues I am learning a lot of positive things which are only making me a better performer. I am enjoying meeting the many music fans throughout the tour and having a chance to thank them for their support."

Cherine sharing some Dancehall-Soul on John Mayer's "Battle Studies" Tour

CHERINE is spreading her wings and winning over new fans one show at time. Cherine, who was recently honored with the "Vocalist of the Year 2009" award at the 6th Annual EME Awards, is currently on a 47 date North American arena tour, joining Michael Franti and Spearhead to open for multi-platinum selling, Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter John Mayer. Recently, the tour hit Canada with an energetic, sold out show at Toronto's Air Canada Center. Cherine, performing with Franti and Spearhead, are set to play to similar audiences in Ottawa and Montreal before heading back stateside. Mayer's "Battle Studies" tour started a little over a week ago in South Florida and will wrap up in Chicago in April.

Franti's Impact:
Cherine, whose talents were featured on several tracks on Franti and Spearhead's latest album All Rebel Rockers, including the Billboard Chart topping hit "Say Hey (I Love You)", continues to fly the Jamaican flag very high, sharing her brand of Dancehall Soul music with the world. This is Cherine's first arena tour, and from updates on her YouTube channel "CherineTV", it is clear that the songbird is having a great time. Regarding Cherine's rapidly progressing career, she spoke of her recently released video for her powerful song "Shine On Jamaica" and said, "Every night is a new opportunity to shine on this tour." Singer/Songwriter Cherine (Anderson) was recognized with the "Vocalist of the Year 2009" award at the 6th Annual Excellence in Music and Entertainment Award ceremony in Kingston, Jamaica on Thursday, February 4, 2010. This marks Cherine's second EME award win and fifth nomination.

When asked how she felt about her win, she responded, "I feel honored to have won this award and really want to thank all who voted for me. It does feel good to be recognized for your work.My team Zlink Entertainment and I have put in a lot of hard work over the last year and it feels like everything is coming together. This award is really encouraging to me.I think people are beginning to understand me more as an artist, and that's all that I could ever ask for."

A stunning Cherine took to the stage in tribute to Studio One and ignited the crowd with her soulful voice singing a rendition of the Studio One classic "The First Cut is the Deepest". She's passionate, soulful, empowering and full of youthful positive vibes. Dancehall Soulstress Cherine Anderson, arguably the busiest and one of the most talented young female Jamaican singers today, is set to grace the mainstage of Jamaica Jazz and Blues festival on Thursday, January 28, at The Greenfield stadium in Trelawny. Anderson will perform alongside Babyface, The Whispers, Joss Stone, Monty Alexander and Joe Roy Jackson.

A musical breath of fresh air, the young artist hails from the tough streets of East Kingston, Jamaica, and has spent the last two years building a reputation of hard-hitting songs and captivating live performances. Cherine became familiar to Jamaican audiences first as an acclaimed child actress, having starred in two of Jamaica's most successful films, Dancehall Queen and One Love. She has been nominated for multiple awards and was named Best Actress in a feature by MTV2 for the film One Love.

Movies aside, the singer/songwriter's debut recording "Good Love" appeared on Sly & Robbie's Grammy Award nominated album Anniversary. Media and reggae music lovers both at home and abroad quickly took notice of Anderson's powerful voice . She has been steadily rising with local hits like "Coming Over Tonight", "Kingston State of Mind", "Good Love" and more recently "Talk if Yuh Talking" and "Shine On Jamaica".

When asked what we can expect from her performance on Jazz, she responds, "Come out and expect to have a good time. There is a lot going on in the world right now so this performance is more than just entertainment, it's for a cause. Jazz & Blues has decided to donate to Haiti's Earthquake Relief, and I'm gonna give it my everything. Last year was a big year for Anderson. She performed at three events celebrating the inauguration of U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington DC (The Green Ball, The Peace Ball, Rock the Vote/Calvin Klein inaugural party), as well as the World Games Special Olympics in Idaho, USA. In August 2009, Cherine made history by becoming the first Jamaican female singer to hit the Billboard Rock charts. She is credited as a featured performer on Michael Franti and Spearhead's "Say Hey (I Love You)" single. The song peaked at #1 on Billboard Heatseekers charts as well as iTunes Alternative Charts. "Say Hey (I Love You)" also reached #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts, and simultaneously registered on six other Billboard charts (Digital Songs, Pop Song, Adult Contemporary, Adult Pop Songs and the Radio Songs charts).

Only in her twenties, Anderson has already collaborated on official remixes with legendary artists including Madonna, Sir Paul McCartney, Britney Spears and Wyclef Jean, all before releasing her much anticipated debut album, which is scheduled to be released in 2010. Having won the award for "Best New Female Artist" at the Excellence in Music and Entertainment Awards in 2007, Anderson is this year being acknowledged for her outstanding contribution in 2009, racking in nominations for "Female Vocalist of the Year" as well as "International Artist of the Year."

This EME nominee saw success with her two singles "Talk if yuh Talking" and "Shine on Jamaica" from her critically acclaimed EP "The Introduction-Dubstyle". "Talk if yuh Talking" was highly rotated on many video charts in Jamaica and the Caribbean and peaked at # 2 after spending 26 weeks on Richie B's Jamaica Weekly Music Countdown. It also peaked at #1 for two weeks on the New York Reggae Charts giving Anderson her first #1 for 2010. The female-empowered hit is currently # 2 on the South Florida charts. In addition, Anderson's second single "Shine on Jamaica" experienced major success on reggae charts abroad, peaking at #1 on both the New York and South Florida charts and made the top ten of several European reggae charts.

Cherine 'Turns Up Heat' in Sexy Video

Kingston, Jamaica - (Jan 11, 2009) - Billboard charting Dancehall Soulstress Cherine Anderson turned up the heat in Red Hills St. Andrew last Thursday night, during an island wide cold front, to shoot the video to her hot new video "You Turn Me On" with Natel. The video, directed by Kevin Lee, was shot by a complete Jamaican crew and produced by Jan'l Hastings-Robinson for Zlink Entertainment/ Dancehall Soul Productions. The set was abuzz with local media all night, eager to capture Anderson in a metallic purple swimsuit. From one look to the next, Anderson and Natel excited the observers and many commented on the chemistry between the two young singers.

We asked Cherine about her experience recording the song with Natel and she responded, "It was really easy, he is very talented. It was really cool to actually be able to record "You Turn Me On" with both of us in the studio together, it helped to make the song more believable."

Jumping in the frigid swimming pool a little after midnight, all the crew and assistance on set watched Anderson in awe. Many sought cover under thick sweaters from the chilling winds, but Anderson, being the consummate professional, was all smiles and continued the shoot . With a modest request for some hot tea during breaks, the petite beauty gave a convincing performance, even joking at one point that it felt like a nice summer day on Hellshire beach.

When Natel was asked about working with Anderson he responded, "It was truly a very exciting experience, one which was filled with a great vibe in a lovely atmosphere. I'm happy and honoured to have been offered the opportunity to work with Cherine on my very first project."

"You Turn Me On" is currently Number 17 on the Jamaica Weekly Music Countdown. It is one of two videos that will be released for Cherine over the next three weeks. The video for the chart topping "Shine On Jamaica" will also be released in January.

CHERINE WRAPS YEAR ROCKING FOR CHARITY AND MORE

Fresh off a series of successful live shows Anderson wraps 2009 with a solid performance at Sting. After spending months touring across three continents and making her billboard charts debut Cherine returned to Jamaica post tour and released three hot singles Talk If Yuh Talking, Real love and Hey Baby. It didn't take long for Cherine to be approached to perform at numerous live shows and charity events for the Holiday season. Anderson who started her foundation Reach One Child, which assists with school supplies and tuition for need-based students, in 2003 was very passionate about giving back this holiday.

First up was Usain Bolt's 9.58 Charity Superparty in Richmond, St. Ann. This show proved to be the perfect platform for Cherine to give her fans a taste of her new music. Clad in sequined shorts, a long black sleeveless coat that opened down the middle to expose some fabulous black knee high boots, she rocked fashion as well as the stage with hits such as Ring The Alarm, Real Love and Coming Over Tonight.

Only a few days later she joined forces with world reknown Trombonist Nambo Robinson and Lecturer/Guitarist Maurice Gordon and performed a short but powerful set to raise funds for music students at the Edna Manley College. The lawns of Jamaica's National Botanical Garden, Hope Gardens, provided the perfect backdrop for the "Evening of Fine Dinning and Music" and fans were able to experience Anderson do her thing in a very intimate setting.

With little rest, Cherine hit the stage again, this time with a live band at the National Indoor Sport Centre for the Asafa Powell Foundation's "A Night on Tracks." She teased the crowd with songs like Good Love and You Turn me On, a duet with Natel and was met with loud cheers, especially from the women, on the female empowered hit Talk if yuh Talking.

Cherine wrapped December with a strong performance at STING 2k9. Introduced as the 'little lady with a powerful voice'" she greeted the approximately 10,000 strong hardcore dancehall patrons at about 4am and delivered songs like Ring the Alarm, Real Love and Coming Over tonight, with The Living Fire (Chuck Fenda) , which was well received by the audience . By all accounts Cherine's performance was solid as she delivered in her first solo STING performance. Additionally, her sense of style was apparent as her outfit was a sight for sore-eyes. Rocking a one-sleeved gold and black cat suit Anderson accentuated with Jamaica's own Reve Jewelers' custom made jewelry aptly titled "Sting". In 2009 she has grown as a singer/songwriter and continues to show her versatility as a performer.

Dancehall Soulstress Cherine Anderson recently showed another side when she opened for multi-talented Okinawan trio - Isamu Shimoji, Sunday, and Yukito Ara, to a packed audience at the Embassy of Japan's Traditional Concert on December 7, 2009, at the Courtleigh Auditorium. The day before the concert a select few were invited by the Ambassador of Japan to Jamaica, His Excellency Hiroshi Yamaguchi and his wife, to lunch at their home in Kingston. Stories shared about Anderson's time spent in Japan and pleasantries exchanged made for a wonderful afternoon, and a great prelude to the event. Anderson, a past recipient of the T.A.K.A.S.E. Foundation Scholarship, spent one year at the prestigious Keio University in Tokyo, Japan studying Japanese Language and Literature. With performing arts engrained in every fiber of her being, it didn't take her long to find her niche on campus and she performed at many campus events along with other Japanese student performers.

At the Embassy Concert Cherine, clad in a beautiful, body-hugging, long indigo dress, addressed the audience in Japanese and proceeded to sing in their native tongue, the popular Japanese song "First Love" by Utada Hikaru. Jamaicans, Japanese, dignitaries and diplomats who were in attendance were all very impressed as was evident with the applause she received after her performance. According to Ms. Chihiro Irisawa, cultural officer for the Embassy of Japan and event organizer, "As a consequence of Cherine's performance in Japanese and English, the concert was a complete success. The Embassy was pleased to have been able to extend to the Japanese and Jamaican audience such a high caliber of music." If this is any indication of things to come for Cherine Anderson, we can all rest assured that even greater things lie ahead for the multi-talented singer/actress.

If there is a female Jamaican singer gaining respect from worldwide audiences on the strength of her talent and showmanship, Cherine Anderson's name would be found among the top of that list. After rocking Eugene, Oregon to a sold-out crowd on Sunday night with Spearhead, Santigold, Soljah and South African band BLK JKS, Anderson was on a pre-dawn flight headed for California with only enough time to get to her hotel, change clothes and head straight for the UCLA stage. If the Dancehall Soulstress was feeling fatigued, it surely didn't show to the music loving crowd, as she delivered a fierce set which left her fans wanting more.

Cherine performed several songs from her newly released CD "The Introduction-Dubstyle EP". Assertive and powerful, she encouraged her female fans with her latest hit "Talk if Yuh Talking", and found favor amoung the West Indians on favorites like "Kingston State of Mind" and "Good Love". It was, however, "Movie Star" that caused the loudest uproar from the audience. An excited middle-aged fan jumped the barricade to dance with Anderson on the classic and even started singing to her, much to the delight of the crowd. She introduced new tracks like "How Many More", and the crowd cheered as she came off the stage into the audience and escorted a fan on stage with her. After she reminded the fans that the day was about them, she handed the young man her mic.

The young man serenaded Cherine with the Bob Marley classic "Turn Your Lights Down Low", before singing Anderson's mega hit "Coming Over Tonight" to her. With time left for one song she delivered a new tune "20 to Life". Cherine herself received a welcome surprise with her finale, as a group of females in the front joined her in singing the unreleased song word for word.

Anderson wrapped her Southern California shows delivering a short but entertaining set on Tuesday night at The Mint to help raise funds for a radio station (KPFK 97FM) charity before wrapping up the week with shows in Savannah, Georgia and upstate New York. She is scheduled to perform at the annual Sierra Nevada World Music Festival on two stages on Saturday, June 20th. She will play a live set on Saturday afternoon and head to the dancehall with Stone Love in the midnight hours.

"SHINE ON JAMAICA" Pulls Double #1's on International Charts

New York, NY (May 13, 2009) After emerging this week's winner on Jamaica's ROOTS FM "What's the Verdict", a program where predominantly inner-city listeners vote from three contenders for the song they believe will be the next huge song in Jamaica, Anderson's "Talk if Yuh Talking" is connecting with many in the streets. Anderson, who just released two singles from her new CD "The Introduction-Dubstyle EP" in is seeing the early fruits of her labor. Both singles "Talking if Yuh Talking" and "Shine on Jamaica" are making moves in different parts of the world.

With the video premiere for "Talk if Yuh Talking" on Entertainment Report last Friday as well as an interview on CVM's Onstage, fans can't get enough of the "drama" in the video and have been commenting on how true to life the subject matter of the song is. The video has since been added to the playlists of many local cable channels.

While "Talk if Yuh Talking" is gaining strength in Jamaica, Anderson is making moves on other international charts. "Shine On Jamaica" currently sits at #1 on both WAVS 1170 top 11 Charts as well as the South Florida Reggae Charts. The song is climbing at #5 on the South London Reggae charts and jumped three spots this week to #19 on the New York's top 30 Reggae Charts.

Anderson set to perform at two sold-out Inaugural events

The victory of President Elect Barack Obama is cause for many celebrations, and the inauguration ceremonies commence in full force next week in Washington DC. Among the invited performers is Jamaica's own Dancehall Soulstress Cherine Anderson, appearing alongside Michael Franti and Spearhead. Monday, January 19, Cherine joins in celebrating the change in US Presidential leadership by performing at "The Green Ball". The event, hosted by former Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore is sold out and takes place at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Center. Anderson is in outstanding company at "The Green Ball", with fellow performers including John Legend, Maroon 5 and Melissa Etheridge among others. Cherine is very honored to take the stage again on Tuesday, January 20, while performing at "The Peace Ball". This special event will be held at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, and is hosted by Harry Belafonte. Other distinguished performers at this event include Joan Baez and Angelique Kidjo. "The Peace Ball" is also a sold out event. Anderson says, "It feels wonderful to be a part of an event that is so historic. This will be one of the biggest celebrations, so I am working very hard to give a memorable performance to honor the occasion."

LIVES THE LIFE SHE IMAGINED

When I was about seven years old, I wrote a list of things I wanted to achieve and places I wanted to visit in my lifetime and placed in on my wall. I didn't obsess about the list; it was just my imagination and daydreams taking me from my childhood reality of a one-bedroom home shared with my parents and two sisters in Nannyville Gardens, Jamaica. While I couldn't even identify some of the locations on a map as a seven year old, I created a mental picture of them and for some reason even felt like there was a spiritual connection with these places. While my list of goals was long, my original list of countries to be visited was really short; there were three: Australia, Japan and India.

I was blessed with the opportunity to study and live in Japan for a whole year, and that experience made me realize how big this world really is. It's weird when you go to a foreign country. You are suddenly pushed to not only define who you are, but you also take on the added responsibility of being a flagship for your country. I loved Japan. I loved the language, the food, the technology, the 'quiet', the fashion, the people, and I loved how independent it made me!

Fast forward to 2008, and here I am sitting in my hotel room in Perth, Australia, bringing another country (and continent!) from my childhood dream list into reality. What was supposed to be just a tour has turned out to be an amazing experience. I've just realized that in one trip I have been able to travel to more states in Australia than even some native Australians have, which is kinna crazy. When I learned that I would be touring Australia at first I thought, "Ok, I've heard of Sydney and Melbourne," but that's pretty much all I knew. I've always had a fascination with Aboriginal art (and I learned from my driver in Sydney that there are messages and sometimes stories behind the dots that are on the many paintings). I decided to buy my nine year old niece a Rainmaker Didgeridoo that is painted and crafted in the traditional dreamtime colors depicting native Australian styles. The lady at the store told me it's meant to bring rain, so I guess when we have droughts in Jamaica, my niece will have it handy and she'll just make it rain. :)

But this wonderful trip was not all vacation. Thanks to Michael Franti & Spearhead I've been fortunate to not only visit but to perform to large and extremely receptive audiences in places like Byron Bay, Brisbane, New Castle, Wollongong, Canberra, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. It's incredible to walk on that stage every night with possibly 98% of the audience having little or no knowledge of Dancehall Soul (these weren't typical reggae audiences), and to witness their transformation during the show. To meet these interesting people night after night and hear their stories and communicate with them online through facebook, myspace and in blogs on my youtube channel afterward has really made my own world so much bigger and better. It took going to the other side of the Earth to prove something to myself; I am truly NOT AFRAID TO LIVE!!!!

I swam with some of the largest sharks, stingrays, turtles (they had heads about two times the size of mine!) and other sea animals that looked scary as hell! I tried the Morton Bay Bug (this was so delicious, and much like lobster), kangaroo (my first and last time, way too chewy for me, and I enjoy seeing them jumping around more than on my plate)! I still have plans of finding some crocodile, so maybe on my next trip. I also got to record a remix of "All I Want Is You" with Michael in a fabulous studio in Perth. I didn't have a lot of time to shop, but I did receive my new baby; custom fit for my skinny little fingers, a Maton acoustic/electric guitar (thanks to the owner of the Maton guitar factory).

Mostly what I'm leaving Australia with is what was least expected, such gracious love from new wonderful fans. One fan followed us to FIVE different shows, and by the third show he made a huge sign saying, "Cherine you melt me". Michael spotted him in the crowd and brought it to the attention of the well over 4,000 fans in attendance who all went wild. For the first time I didn't know what to say. I was totally blown away in Wollongong when a middle-aged man took off his amputated leg and told me he would be honored to have me sign it. Another fan had me speechless in Canberra when she told me she was so touched by our performance that she wanted me to sign her stomach. She went further to explain that she had miscarried months prior and was blessed to be pregnant again, and the music was so moving she figured she would call this unborn baby melody because 'music is life' and it connects all people from all different places together; I humbly obliged to her request.

I love that I can walk in with no expectations and have the place, the people and the experience put a positive stamp on my mind and heart. In a lot of ways the beaches are somewhat similar to Jamaica (but yaad a yaad and our vibe is priceless). It was also heartwarming to find out that the Australian government made a public apology to the Aboriginal people for the injustices done to them over the years. The uncertainty of the global economy is affecting lives everywhere and most Australians were very keen on the outcome on America's November 4th elections (this was a big topic in most of the interviews I've done while here). While I would have loved to visit the world famous AYERS rock in the middle of the country, I didn't get the chance, but I guess I shouldn't try to do everything in one trip. It will give me greater reasons to return.

I don't know where else my imagination or travels will take me next but I know that faith, sacrifice, a positive attitude and determination are a few keys to achieving anything in this world. Sometimes things happen as you imagine, but most times the enormity of the great things is so vast that only in a divine moment do you realize just how far you've come or how many other victories you've won along your journey. My dreams for myself are just as big as my dreams for Jamaica. I stay committed to making my contribution by producing great music and greats films, continuing in the legacy set by those before me like Leonie Forbes, Madge Sinclair, Louise Bennett, Bob Marley, I-Threes, Sly & Robbie among so many others.

In closing I reflect on the words of western philosopher Henry David Thoreau, which I would advise to everyone - "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined."

On the heels of wrapping a successful 21 date tour of the US in early September, the young Dancehall Soul songstress Cherine Anderson returns to the States again, this time hitting the road with singer/activist Michael Franti and Spearhead. Anderson is touring with the massively popular Franti and Spearhead in support of their September 9th release, All Rebel Rockers, in which Cherine is featured on three songs. The first single off the album, "Say Hey (I Love You)" featuring Cherine, is receiving great radio rotation as well as being featured on ads for the CW and E! Entertainment Networks.

Anderson serves as the band's opening act performing songs from her upcoming EP "The Introduction-dubstyle", and rejoins the band as a featured vocalist during the Spearhead set. Just several shows into joining the tour, Anderson's presence has created a buzz. Nicole Kristek of Mel.Opho.be writes about the show at Marymoor Amphitheatre in Washington, "(Cherine) showed off her range and power with slow "diva"-style vocals mixed over reggae beats. The All Rebel Rockers tour also allowed Cherine the opportunity to perform at The Hollywood Bowl, her second feature at the famed concert hall in her young career. In October, the tour takes Anderson to Australia, her first time taking her Dancehall Soul sound "Down Under". The talented artists bring their powerful shows to ten cities in Australia including Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Cherine Anderson is fresh off the 2008 Tailgate Tour with Slightly Stoopid, Pepper and Sly & Robbie and The Taxi Gang; a 21 date summer tour which weaved the bands through the US from Santa Barbara, California to St. Augustine, Florida. Cherine impressed audiences from city to city gaining new supporter along the way. The bands sold out the famous Red Rocks Theatre in Colorado and warmed an audience who braved the rain to enjoy the music. Both Slightly Stoopid and Pepper also loved Cherine's Dancehall Soul vibe and invited her to perform in their respective sets. This saw Anderson playing triple duty - first performing her set with Sly & Robbie, followed by performing a remix of Pepper's "Like Your Style" during their set and then returning to the stage with Slightly Stoopid at the end to perform her own hit "Good Love".
Cherine says of the tour, "WOW, where do I begin? The tour exceeded all my expectations! I love, love, loved it. We started in California and ended in Florida playing to sold out audiences most night, and the energy from those crowds was indescribable. Sly & Robbie turned up that heat every night it was just great. And working with Slightly Stoopid and Pepper was amazing. Those guys are so passionate about what they do. It was like one big musical family."

According to legendary drummer Sly Dunbar " It is really amazing to see the growth of Cherine from the first tour to now, She really shines on the tough hardcore riddims."

The bands had nothing but raves for the presence and talents Anderson added to the Tailgate 2008 tour. Miles, founding member of Slightly Stoopid said, "Cherine brings love to the battlefield. She has an incredibly beautiful voice and lots of energy on stage and is definitely someone people should check out." C-Money from Slightly Stoopid replied, "Cherine is a true artist, a sexy mama and a positive light." OG added, "The way she carries herself, she's just really normal, but she gets on that stage and passion just oozes out of her."
The band's tour manager Brian shared, "Every night she hit that stage, it took about 30 seconds into her set before the workers at the venues all looked to the stage to see where that sound was coming from. Cherine is the real deal. Her voice grabs your attention and forces you to listen and it gives you goose bumps too."

A highlight during Cherine's set was her new single "Talk If Yuh Talking", (released to Jamaican radio this week). Cherine Anderson is in the process of finishing up her debut album, Kingston State of Mind. Panache Magazine has been granted exclusive access into a Los Angeles recording studio as Cherine works with producer David Norland. As I step into the studio, Cherine is laying vocals to a tune which is a possible song for her album. Within minutes, several things are quite clear. One, this girl’s voice is large. As in, you don’t expect this massive, powerful voice to come from a petite, 5’3” beauty. Two, she is very much in control of her artistry – she is obviously not a novice. Three, Cherine Anderson is for real. Not a pro-tooled, note manipulated, over-produced, manufactured type of artist. She seems to be genuine article, and with the sounds coming from this gal, I would predict she’s about to take the world by storm.

Air Jamaica chooses Cherine Anderson

Air Jamaica's inflight magazine, Skywritings, has chosen Dancehall Soul songstress Cherine Anderson as their cover model and feature for their Summer 2008 issue. The magazine, available on all Air Jamaica flights in July and August, features fantastic photos of Cherine shot on location throughout Kingston by photographer Martei Korley.

The magazine originally approached Cherine interested in doing an article on her hit song "Kingston State of Mind", based on the impact of the song and the message involved, but they soon realized there was much more to discuss.

The 8 page feature includes commentary on Cherine's music, life, love and her latest business venture. The beauty was styled by Anatoli Smith with hair and makeup by Carol Reid. Always interested in fashion, Cherine also styled a couple of the looks herself. She says, "If I can bring a light to something, I would have achieved everything I ever hoped for."

Cherine Anderson has come with a difference, not with the commercially viable, breast and bottom gyration, but instead, with deep, soulful music with a positive message.

Her current message, "Kingston State of Mind", is an appeal for civility, and a rebuke against the unjust. Whatever the message is, Cherine always delivers it with a positive connotation. Interestingly, this Reggae artiste, without exposing her body unduly, or without bragging about bedroom exploits, has been receiving international clout. Remarkably, a project done by world leading producers Sly&Robbie had her collaborating with Canadian mega-star Britney Spears for the song "Piece of Me".

She is a Jamaican actress and Dancehall/Reggae vocalist. Anderson's acting career began in 1997 with a role in the local classic "Dancehall Queen", she is also known for playing the character Serena in the 2003 Jamaican film, "One Love".

Anderson has worked and performed with musician Sly&Robbie, Sting, Bootsy Collins, Jimmy Cliff among others. She contributed to several IODA compilation releases prior to the success of her January 2006 single, "Good Love", which appeared on a compilation showcasing the rhythm of Jimmy Riley's "Love & Devotion".

"Good Love" appears on the 2008 Grammy nominated album "Anniversary" by Sly & Robbie and The Taxi Gang. In 2006, Anderson collaborated with Chuck Fenda on the single, "Coming Over", which rose to #1 on the Jamaican charts and remained on the Top 30 for 26 weeks. Anderson made her directorial debut in 2007 when directed the video for "Kingston State of Mind". The song would eventually top the Caribbean video charts and remain in the top 10 for 4 months. Wyclef Jean is featured on the remix to "Kingston State of Mind".

Anderson opened for Wyclef Jean in Tortola, British Virgin Island in 2007. She was a featured vocalist on Sly & Robbie and The Taxi Gang's US/Canadian tour in 2007 as well.

Dancehall Soul singer/songwriter/actress Cherine Anderson, who walked away with the award for Best Female Vocalist at the 2008 Caribbean Urban Music Awards, shared ideas for growth and development with the girls. Cherine believes that holding a positive image coupled with constructive activities and positive reinforcement can lead to success. Cherine has recently taken the entertainment industry by storm, collaborating with reknown musicians including Paul McCartney, Bootsy Collins, Britney Spears and Wyclef Jean. Anderson is the star of the movies One Love and Dancehall Queen and has had much acclaim for her songs "Kingston State of Mind", "Good Love" and "Coming Over", which she recorded with Chuck Fender. Entertainers are known to share similar experiences; whether it's growing up in the 'garrisons', being raised by a single parent or realising their passion for music within the confines of the church.

In Youthlink's interview with dancehall/soul superstar Cherine Anderson, she unenthusiastically shares tales of the same fable.

"It wasn't so much the message in church that appealed to me at first, but the passion and strength in the people's voices," explained Cherine. Straying from her 'church music', Cherine Anderson has used the passion and strength she gained to create a driven, self-assured soul-creating machine.

How do you classify your music?

"Dancehall/soul, it's everything street, meeting everything sweet."

How exactly did your dancehall/ soul and Britney Spears' pop get intertwined on the international star's single 'Piece of me'?

"Well, Britney's management team actually approached me and proposed the deal and we accepted."

YL: Speaking about Britney, she has been in the tabloids quite a lot, what do you think about all she's been going though lately?

"I really feel for her because people don't understand how difficult it must be to have grown up in the public eye, and all of this is new to her."

You spent some of your life in Japan and even speak the language, how was the experience?

"Intense! The food, people and fashion ... their fashion is way ahead of the US. It's like a candy store for people interested in gadgets."

You've appeared in films such as 'Dancehall Queen' and 'One Love', any other acting jobs on the way?

"Yes, there is an interactive teen drama called Choices, which was shot in Trinidad last year. I play a young lawyer. That will soon be aired on Tempo."

What's your most overused phrase?

"I don't know ... (laughs) and for real."

What's your best physical feature?

"These questions are hard ... (laughs). I think it's my eyes."

Your guiltiest, guilty pleasure?

"A tie between cheesecake and sushi. I love sushi."

Music Award on Saturday Night.

Dancehall Soul singer/songwriter Cherine Anderson walked away with the award for Best Female Vocalist at the 2008 Caribbean Urban Music Awards held on Saturday, April 26 at Sugarmans Beach in Jamaica. Anderson, who was up against Tami Chynn, Lady Saw, Macka Diamond and Queen Ifrica for Best Female Artist, was also nominated in the category of Best Newcomer. The striking 5 foot 3 soulstress gave a powerful performance of her prolific hit "Kingston State of Mind" and was asked by the appreciative crowd to "sing some more, another song, sing anything". Totally impromptu, Anderson then asked the host of the show, Spragga Benz, if he would join her on her hit collaboration "Coming Over", a duet she originally recorded with Chuck Fender. The two stars unleashed what could easily be considered the performance highlight of the night, both singing and then free styling DJ lines to the loud applause from the crowd causing them to 'pull up' the song from the beginning.

When asked about her win Anderson responded, "It's a blessing to be recognized for doing something I love, my music. It's very humbling to be awarded the Female Artist of the Year amongst such an accomplished group of deserving women artists. I intend to continue making good music, and receiving this recognition from my fans and the CUMA is truly motivating and rewarding."

In response to how she felt about performing with Spragga Benz, Cherine burst into a huge smile and added, "Oh my God, that was so much fun. I was kinna nervous having only prepared one song, but when the audience asked me to sing something else, I looked over and saw Spragga Benz and decided to just take a chance. He was wonderfuI, he even knew all the words."

The evening lineup got started with a sensual performance by the young Cherine Anderson who gained fame for her acting abilities in the films Dancehall Queen (1997) and One Love (2003). It's hard to believe she's the same little girl who appeared in Dancehall Queen when you see her now as a charming and beautiful young lady. Cherine performed her chart-topping hit with Chuck Fender, "Coming Over" and surprised us all when she shocked out on the song, "Good Love". Cherine is currently enjoying nice airplay for her video version of the song "Kingston State Of Mind" which topped MTV's Caribbean video countdown and remained on the top ten for four months, a real feat for such a young Jamaican singer in the U.S. Cherine truly epitomizes the phrase, 'triple threat' with being not only an accomplished actor, singer but also graduated 'with honors' from Middlebury College with a B.A. in Film and Music and a minor in Japanese language and literature. Like one of her predecessors Tanya Stevens, Cherine is another rare addition to the ranks of talented female artists coming out of Jamaica today. SISTERS TO SISTERS MEDIATHON:A Big Success

Sunday April 13th was a day of shared joy and pain, a celebration of lives and achievements and the ability to endure abuse and suffering; and to overcome through strength and determination. But most of all it was about Sisterhood. The CPTC's (Creative Production & Training Centre) studios were host to a live 'Mediathon' entitled "Sisters to Sisters", under the International Women's Day theme "Financing for Gender Equality." Sponsored by the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports (MICYS), the objective was to raise funds for the Women's Centre of Jamaica Foundation and establishment of a shelter being built by the Bureau for Women's Affairs for battered women, with a target of raising JA$10 million.

There was an amazing presence of successful women of all professions, both participating and in attendance. Amongst these remarkable women lending their valuable time and talents were, The Hon. Olivia "Babsy" Grange (Minister of Information, Culture & Sport), who's to be thanked and commended for hosting and taking part in pioneering such a worthy event. Former Minister of Tourism Hon. Aloun N'dombet-Assamba, was one of many to share her personal experiences of abuse with viewers. Additional names include Leonie Forbes, Denise Hunt, Jenny Jenny, Denise "Isis" Miller, and other media personalities. A truly regal selection of female performers, many of whom provided not only entertainment but helped take calls live on air, included: Nadine Sutherland, Carlene Davis, Queen Ifrica, Cherine Anderson, Alaine, Etana and D'Angel. One of the many highlights was Lady G performing a combination, very symbolic of sisterhood, along with Marcia Griffiths. It is hoped that the sisterhood experienced at "Sisters to Sisters" can continue on and reflect in the industry from this day forward.

Many participants were required to make this event happen and there was an awesome turnout of industry people who provided logistical support. Phone lines were setup to handle the vast amount of calls received and the pledges were numerous. Companies took notice of "Sisters to Sisters" and gave generously. Grace Foods pledged $1,000,000 and Mr Anthony Abrahams from News Talk 93FM pledged $500,000 and $1,000,000 in advertising to the cause. In addition to corporate pledges musicians Carol Gonzales, Cherine Anderson and even Nelly Furtado, who has often been affiliated with Jamaican music and culture, made pledges. Many children called into the studios excited to take part and made pledges of whatever they could spare, $500 or even $100 contributions, because every little bit helps, and every single donation counts. The fact that the younger generation was so happy to take part was further testimony to the success of the event overall.
After six hours of live performances, interviews and coverage on CVM and TVJ, as well as other cable and internet TV stations including Negril TV, it was estimated that $6.5 million of the $10 million target had been raised! However, it is not over yet. For anyone wishing to pledge, there is still time to make your contributions to this extremely worthy cause. The deadline to reach the targeted goal of $10 million is May 30, 2008.

She generally represents the mellow side of dancehall, a musical genre that has become different things to different people. Her personification of the soulful branch of reggae radiates with comeliness and intellect that is as stunning and appealing as her sultry vocals.

Cherine Anderson oozes the kind of confidence and eye-catching charm that echos her winnability in a creative endeavour that has often proven unkind to the female of the species. This dancehall "soulstress," who is of the view that the music world needs to hear more reggae/dancehall from a female's perspective, is smoothly sailing to the forefront of her game.

If there is one dancehall act (irrespective of gender) who is on a roll at this juncture, it's Cherine Anderson. Less than a year ago, she had the number one record and number one video in Jamaica, for three weeks, Coming Over Tonight, a song she wrote and on which she collaborated with Chuck Fender.

In the latter half of last year, she also had the number two record on the South Florida charts for over 27 weeks, this was Good Love. It went on the charts sometime in July and it never came off until the end of the year.
Presently, Anderson has two songs in the Top Ten in South Florida, one of which is Coming Over Tonight, and another song called Skin To Skin, produced by Irie Pen, a label out of Miami.

But her latest musical project, Kingston State of Mind, is a lament of the shady side of her native community, which has been rocked by a prolonged spell of social explosion. Anderson, riding on Clement Coxsone Dodd's Darker Shade rhythm, gives an enthralling peek into her present head space.

"Something that is really dear to my heart because I grew up in East Kingston. I was born on Lucas Road in Rockfort, moved between there and Windward Road, Nannyville and Rollington Town," explains the singer-songwriter about one of the strongest social commentaries spinning on the turntables since the start of the year.

"I left for college, came back to Jamaica and just looking on, it's not that it's foreign to me, but it's gotten to a point now where if a five-year-old can say the man dead or dem shoot di lady in har head ..... I find it sad as it sounds like there no separation of what would have been probably a movie to me at five (years of age), and what's reality for Jamaican kids today," she added.

"Ah mean," she continues, "the issue was so personal that when I went to write Kingston State Of Mind, it came in ten minutes.... It took ten minutes of being in the studio for everything to just gell, it just came out. Even when time came to decide on who to hire to come in on the background, I said 'you know what, just run the track'. So I just sang all the vocals, background, everything.....It was almost like I was in a very different space."

Notwithstandin the upheavals her community is experiencing, Cherine Anderson has not abandoned her roots, and was quick to point out, "The funny thing about it, I'm not far removed from East Kingston, I still have family, my parents are there.

Everyone knows from her huge single Coming Over Tonight with Chuck Fender, has shared her ghetto experience in Kingston State of Mind and now Cherine Anderson, a double threat (sorry, make that a triple threat, as she was also a member of Ashe's youth arm), is back with another hit-bound single.

She's very talented and beautiful and recently released a video for her latest single Me And You Against The World. The song tells of how the world sometimes fights love, but if there is true love the parties involved struggle to stay together.

The video's Bonnie-and-Clyde-in-Jamaica concept sets up the song's lyrics to perfection. She sings: Could he be cheating?/ Should I really leave him?/ 'Cause I won't be the kind of chick to leave my man because jealous lips say so. He says it's all a lie/ They don't want to see you and I/ Together.

According to the assistant director Michael Cushnie, "This is the Jamaican version of Bonnie and Clyde - only difference is that Cherine is the one on the run, while Joel, her beau and protector, is shielding her from the law." But that is not shown clearly in the video. All throughout the video it was made to look as if it is Cherine's love interest, Joel Jones, that is wanted by Police.

They both run away to an old house, (on location in Port Royal), while the police try to figure out their movements. But no matter how many leads they get the couple are always one step ahead.

The concept is clear and hits the song perfectly! The outfits in the video were High Fashion Meets Street. TEENage's favourite outfit in the video is the Yellow and blue tube top, with those black skinny jeans and yellow pumps.

By looking at the wardrobe for the video, it is obvious that this is not a low-budget venture. All her styles were pulled from New York and London fashion designers. There were shoes ranging from the premier of French labels Balenciaga, Fendi, Miu Miu, Prada and the oldest fashion house in operation, House of Lanvin, about the set. The urban, yet haute couture wardrobe were from designers such as Proenza Schouler, YSL, Christian Dior and Herve Leger. Cherine's flawless make-up was done by internationally renowned artist Carol Reid and the wardrobe styled by one of TEENage's founding writers, now stylist, Anatoli Smith.

Considering everything, the video was well planned and thought out, another great video, from another great artiste.

Cherine Anderson has been conquering the entertainment industry genre by genre, with major movie roles under her belt like the role of Tanya in Dancehall Queen and Serena in One Love, singles doing well on the music charts and colabs with artistes like Paul McCartney of the Beatles and Wyclef Jean not to mention having written songs for herself and the likes of Maxi Priest. She is a well-rounded and highly-accomplished talent that begun her theatrical background touring with the world-renowned Ashe Performing Arts Ensemble based here in Jamaica.

Cherine refers to her style of music as dancehall soul, a fusion of street meets sweet. It is a reflection of her upbringing in East Kingston, Jamaica combined with new exposures, living in far-away places like Vermont and Los Angeles in the USA and the exotic Tokyo, Japan for a year. She refers to dancehall as the foundation of her music mixed in with her early church background. A sweet and eclectic mix of music, I often viewed Cherine’s fashion sense similarly, rugged but sweet. It is rooted in our dancehall culture, skewed to her international prowesses plus mixing her own smoothness in. Cherine was gracious enough to speak with me recently about her very unique sense of style.

Irie Diva: Tell me about your style, do you keep up with the latest trends?
Cherine: I find that I like to mix retro with new. Having lived in Japan, which is very fashion forward, I was able to mix vintage styles with new trends and make them my own. My style is one that people can definitely identify with and achieve. I like when people can see my outfit and envision themselves wearing it like “yeah I can take that skinny jeans and mix it with a tank, throw in some bangles” basically mix and match to create their own look.
Irie Diva: Do you dress yourself for your appearances?
Cherine: I mostly dressed myself in the early stages of my career. Now there are stylists that I work with for some events like my most recent video shoot for “You and Me Against the World” I was happy to work with Anatolli Smith who had me styled in John Galliano of Christian Dior fame, Balenciaga shoes, custom made jewelly and some hot vintage pieces. I think working with a stylist definitely has its benefits because there are two sets of eyes looking out for the right looks and that makes you feel even more confident in your clothes.
Irie Diva: Ok, so tell me what you’re thinking when you’re dressing yourself to say…go on stage.
Cherine: To go on stage I’m considering many things. Definitely I want to be comfortable because I work the stage and I mean really work it so I want to make sure I am comfortable, not constipated (we both LOL!) Comfort still involves heels because I’m only 5′3 so I need my heels and definitely something that still looks good when I sweat because I may be sweating under the heat of the stage lights. White looks good on stage as well, bright colours and I’m into the glittery/shiny pieces (you know I love her now)

Cherine Supports Sister to Sister Charity Mediathon

Songbirds Cherine Anderson(left) Marcia Griffiths (center) and Queen Ifrica will be among 50 female performers who will this Sunday give their talents to the Sisters To Sisters Mediathon to raise funds for female charities in the island. The seven-hour concert will be held at the Creative Production and Training Centre, Kingston, starting at 1 p.m. Please support this worthy cause. To contribute call: (876) 654-9688

Fifty female performers will on Sunday, April 13, open their hearts and offer assistance to other females under the theme 'Sisters to Sisters', an all-female mediathon scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Launched at Women's Centre Foundation of Jamaica head office on Thursday, March 7, the mediathon aims to empower less fortunate females. Proceeds of the event will go towards building shelters for battered women across the island, and also towards the Women's Centre Foundation of Jamaica.

The target is $10 million and organisers hope to also raise awareness of significant issues affecting women. Among the confirmed entertainers are: actress Leonie Forbes, singers Marcia Griffiths, Etana, Queen Ifrica, Ce'cile, Tessanne Chin, Cherine Anderson, Nadine Sutherland, dub poet Cherry Natural, as well as the L'Acadco dancers.

During Sunday's mediathon Jamaica is being encouraged to pledge funds towards the target. The mediathon will be staged at the studios of the Creative Production and Training Centre and will be broadcasted live on various television and radio stations.

Singer/Songwriter releases "Street Anthems' CD

Cherine Anderson's 'Dancehall Soul' sound has made an impact and helped to create a new standard for up and coming Jamaican female vocalists. In only two years she ignited our flames with "Good Love" , turned up the heat with "Coming Over Tonight", and set ablaze speaker boxes with the lyrically potent and heartfelt "Kingston State of Mind". Cherine has written and collaborated with some of the best in the business and performed on world renowned stages. For those eager for more of Cherine Anderson, she's got something for you - a FREE mixtape entitled Street Anthems - made especially for her fans.

The mix (a FREE download through www.cherineanderson.com), is a 36 minute musical journey and offers new recordings of previously released hits as well as several unreleased songs.
